So you want to talk about Supreme Court cases to watch

Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed to the Supreme Court on October 26th.

Her presence on the court adds the possibility of an additional conservative ruling on cases that are going to be heard in the following weeks and months. Here are some of the cases you should watch…

Mississippi's 15-week abortion ban: October 30th

On Monday, the Supreme Court announced it would consider Mississippi's petition to review its 15-week abortion ban.

The case directly challenges Roe v. Wade and has the potential to reverse the landmark 1973 decision.

LGBTQ/Religious Discrimination: November 4th

On November 4th, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in Fulton v. City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This is a religious liberty case that could allow private agencies that receive taxpayer funding to provide government services - such as foster care providers, food banks, homeless shelters, etc - to deny services to people who are LGBTQ, Jewish, Muslim, or Mormon.

The Affordable Care Act: November 10th

On November 10th, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in California v. Texas, a case that questions the legality of the Affordable Care Act.

This lawsuit is one of many attempts to dismantle the ACA. What stands out here, however, is that even conservatives have referred to this suit as “ridiculous”.
